Notes from a Foodie

Here, we present a Q&A with the author of our April cover story, Nikki Buchanan. While we’d love to show you her pretty face, we just can’t — you know, to preserve her anonymity. So, we’ll show you the image from our April cover instead.

What are some of your favorite comfort foods? Fried chicken is No. 1; meatloaf and mashed potatoes; mac & cheese, chocolate; or almost anything involving butter, cheese, sour cream or whipped cream.

If you could only have two comfort food items every day for the rest of your life what would they be? Potatoes and chocolate.

Are there any recipes that you’ve had handed down in your family for several generations? My maternal grandmother’s peach cobbler and my Aunt Dimp’s sour cream cake (only one generation but it will live on).

What’s the biggest or most time-consuming meal you’ve ever made? Thanksgiving for a boatload of people.

What’s your favorite part about going out to eat? Being with friends, people-watching and of course, eating!

Do you prefer making food or going out? Why? Depends on the day. Friday and Saturday nights, I want to go out. Sunday, I want to make something special and stay home.
