Sedona: If You’re In the Area…

Next time you visit Red Rock Country, plan to stop at Elote Cafe for dinner. Owned by chef Jeff Smedstad, this local favorite in Sedona serves up some delicious Mexican food using local ingredients. The place gets packed fast and Elote does not take reservations, so a wait might be in your future… but trust me, it’s well worth it.

Of course, if you’re comfortable eating your dinner at the bar, you may get a seat much faster — and you can watch the bartender create tasty Margaritas or partake in one yourself.

If you go, be sure to try the Elote… a mix of fire roasted corn with spicy mayo, cotija cheese and lime. Although I didn’t try any of the large entrees, some of the folks sitting at the bar with me did. A young woman on my left said the lamb shank in the Lamb Adobo was so tender it fell off the bone, and her gentleman friend raved about the flan. A woman to my right loved her Carne Asada dish… a grilled skirt steak with blue cheese, avocado and rajas. That’s the great thing about sitting at a bar sometimes, you meet some really lovely people.

Oh, and if you love the food as much as I did, you can pick up the Elote Cafe cookbook… Alas, cooking is not my forte, so I’ll be coming back up to Sedona to enjoy more of Chef Jeff’s rico cuisine.
