Slide Rock State Park near Sedona has been named one of “America’s 10 Best State Parks” by Fodor’s Travel. According to the Fodor’s website, the park, located in stunning Oak Creek Canyon, was chosen to occupy the No. 8 slot for one reason only: “To slip down the smooth, red-sandstone water slide and be carried over the surface by a cooling creek into the swimming hole below.”

In a statement, Jennifer Wesselhoff, president and CEO of the Sedona Chamber of Commerce, said, “Out of 8,000 state parks around the country, we are very pleased that our historical local gem has been placed on this prestigious list of top 10 Best State Parks in America. The park is a perfect place to cool off and enjoy picnics, swimming, natural water slides, and some of the best scenery and hiking in the Southwest. Sedona’s proximity to seven area state parks, five national monuments and many heritage sites makes it a paradise for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.”

We used to drive to Sedona from Phoenix, Park on the side of the road, climb down the bank to the river ,walk up to the place the slide rock was and slide, slide, slide, that was back in about 1960. Now it is a State Park, WOW !

Took the kids there when they were about 10 hrs old. Never had so much fun ever! Beautiful, and since it was made a park is so kid friendly. Rangers always there. Wonderful!

My husband and his sisters grew up here. Their Dad ran a store across the street this was their bathtub. We spent many many hours for years here before it became a state Park. It is beautiful…. Several (westerns) movies were filmed here in the 50’s……So many memories.

  7. I haven’t been to Slide Rock in many years, but I remember it was so fun! I’m visiting Arizona soon and want to go camping. This is definiltey one of the places I’m considering.
