Uniquely Arizona… Or How We Ring in 2012

These boots were made for walking thanks to Kelly Kramer

If you haven’t yet finalized your New Year’s Eve plans, we’ve got some suggestions that might just tickle your fancy……….. and they involve inanimate objects being dropped from great heights.

Yes, New York may have gotten the ball rolling (so to speak) with their fancy Waterford crystal orb, but our state took it to another level with these three, uniquely Arizona New Year events……

Pick your poison and ring in 2012 Arizona-style!

What: 2012 Boot Drop
Where: Prescott
A 6-foot illuminated cowboy boot will be slowly lowered down a 40-foot flagpole to ring in the New Year. While the Boot Drop itself takes place outside the Palace Saloon, all of Montezuma Street between Goodwin and Gurley will be turned into a street party. A DJ from Great Circle Radio will be spinning tunes and there will be various local food vendors, plus prize giveaways throughout the night!

What: New Year’s Eve Pinecone Drop
Where: Flagstaff
It’s a famous Flagstaff tradition and wonderfully family-friendly event… Countdown to 2012 and watch the pinecone drop at the famous Weatherford Hotel. Expect plenty of live entertainment on Heritage Square, food, vendors and more.

What: 28th Annual New Year’s Even Fiesta Bowl Block Part
Where: Tempe
Watch a tortilla chip drop into a vat of salsa at the stroke of midnight at this Mill Avenue fest… with plenty of entertainment (courtesy of Valley favorites, the Gin Blossoms), food, drinks and loads fun, this block party is a definite favorite among locals.
